Community Ministries

Each Thursday morning a group from our church participates in a community service at Kent County Nursing Home.  The residents of the Home look forward to the music provided by the group and to the short devotional by one of the local pastors.  Everyone in the community is invited to join this group each week when they meet at the nursing home from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m.

Our church supports the local Bruce Long Food Pantry by designating a percentage of our budget to this worthwhile effort.  On occasion, some of our members help deliver the boxes to shut-ins who cannot pick them up themselves.  The Food Pantry is a community-wide effort and our church is thankful for this service to needy individuals in our county.

The Ministerial Alliance of Jayton is supported by all the churches in town.  It was instigated for the sole purpose of assisting people in dire need of aid and who have no other resources, such as travelers who need gas or food while traveling through our town.
The churches in Jayton sponsor two community events a year -- a community Easter service and a community Thanksgiving service.  Donations to fund the Ministerial Alliance are received during these services.  First Baptist is thankful that we can be a part of the ministry provided by the Ministerial Alliance.

Youth Happening is a non-denominational ministry.  First Baptist provides a youth building for all the youth in the county to meet each Wednesday evening.  The young people gather, enjoy a snack in Fellowship Hall, then head for the youth building for games, devotional time, and fellowship with other teens.  We strive to make Youth Happening THE place to be for the youth!

Also on Wednesday evenings, there are fun activities for the elementary children.  They are divided into groups according to their ages, and very competent and dedicated teachers lead them in learning games, Bible stories, and many enjoyable activities. These groups also look forward to a delicious meal or snack provided by volunteers each Wednesday evening.  All school-age children in the community are invited to come and take part in the fun.
